star (they/she) is aN oakland based illustrator who loves creating art through the lens of progressive social justice politics. themes of their work are black empowerment, intersectional/black feminism, tlgbq+ rights, democratic socialism, anti-police terror, body and sex positivity, etc.
their illustration is often presented in the format of zines, portraits, posters and children's books. The focal medium of their work is digital, print, watermedia and pen & ink. they identify as a queer black Demi-girl femme and take pride in preserving the culture of oakland as a born and bred Bay Area local. star is a also a teaching artivist and has worked with youth since 2012. she currently teaches "art as activism" at the summer camp, Camp winnarainbow. her goal is to create accessible art that is inclusive of underfed, marginalized communities. This is executed with an emphasis on influencing creative civil unrest in children.
she has a bfa in illustration and writing & literature from California College of the Arts.
in their spare time they enjoy going to local dive bars, attending concerts, going on spontaneous adventures, challenging authority, cuddling with friends and fur babies, and watching horror movies and serial killer docs.
